And when we're rich as Croesus, Jesus, won't we see you all in hell!

On this morning's news there was a segment about the CHIP health care program. I am not blogging to debate this issue, as I have no hard facts to back up a case either way.

What I want to comment on is a statement that knocked me on my ass. The interviewee during the story (a PA state senator whose name escapes me at the moment) mentioned that the poverty line in this country, for a family of four, is $20,000 per year. Let that sink in for a moment. $20,000 a year for a family of four. How can a family of four possibly even pay for rent and food with that money? Who decides what the poverty line is?

I would like to find out the answer to that question and then challenge that person/persons/committee to try to support four people on that salary for the period of one month. Once you've done that, come back to me and let's discuss what constitutes poverty.

I am very angry and I am on a soapbox...watch out!

Excellent post Cuz (and great use of the subject line). I couldn't make it work for a family of 2. I can't imagine having to do that for a family of 4.

So True! Have you read "Nickeled and Dimed"? It's all about how people don't do it on minimum wage. You will never shop at Wal-Mart again.
