Oh God for shame; I do not even know your name...

Everyday it seems people become more and more self-absorbed. For example, the other week I was in a line about 20 people deep to go through a ticket turn style for a train. Instead of walking to the end of the line and taking her turn, a woman tried to walk right in front of me. Evidently she did not feel as though she needed to wait in a line like everyone else. I turned to her and said, in my very annoyed tone, "Excuse me." She looked at me as if I were rude by even questioning her!

This has unfortunately become the way of the world, it seems. No one shows any common courtesy to the people around them and I for one am just a little fed up. I am tired of people not holding elevators and doors, people talking on cell phones, and not reigning in their wild and obnoxious children.

However, it seems chivalry is not entirely dead. I was walking through the city Tuesday evening and carrying a book in my hand. I accidentally dropped it and it fell to the pavement. I was about to bend down to get it when a boy walking the opposite way stopped dead in his tracks, picked up my book, handed it to me and walked away. I have no idea who he was or his name, but that one tiny gesture made me very happy. All is certainly not lost, it seems.

I've felt the same way on many occasions. People are getting more rude every day. Just the other day some kid called me Ma'am. Can you believe it?? I punched him in the face and took my caramel macchiato without paying. It was his fault really.
