The Secret Garden

This chair, reminiscent of the chairs that adorned my grandmother's patio when we were growing up, resides in the portion of my mom's yard called The Secret Garden.

It's roughly a 20' x 20' space off the side of the house that's covered in mint and creeping rosemary, with this chair nestled in a corner. On a breezy spring or summer evening you can sit quietly and listen to the faint sound of wind chimes.

I took this picture 7 hours into yesterday's storm. The chair is no longer visible, as it is covered in fluffy, white snow.

The local news reported my mom's town was blanketed with 24" of snow yesterday. (I find the word "blanketed" interesting to describe being buried in snow, for blankets imply such a cozy emotion and although I love the snow, I wouldn't say it's cozy at all.)

Now that the snow has stopped it's time to begin the process of digging out. It's time to remove that blanket that's left us flocked in crisp, white snow.

As I shovel the 24" away I will keep warm with thoughts of sitting in The Secret Garden in the spring and summer to come...complete with the smell of mint and creeping rosemary, and the chair reminiscent of the chairs that adorned my grandmother's patio when we were growing up.
