I'm sure you are well aware of the recent battles the Mid Atlantic states have been engaged in with Mother Nature. Turns out the good old Mother is quite powerful and she socked us with an enormous amount of snow. So much snow that the Philadelphia Public School District was closed last Wednesday through Friday.
These recent days off have brought their total amount of snow days to five so far, yet the school calendar only allotted for one day. This means that the additional four days will have to be tacked on to the end of the school year because, by law, a school year must consist of 180 days.
Or does it?
According to KYW am news, the school district can appeal making up the days at the end of the year.
Have you ever met a child in the Philadelphia school system? Have you ever spoken with a teacher in this system?
I have on both accounts and let me tell you...these kids aren't -- on the whole -- the brightest bulbs in the lamp of genius.
Instead of appealing having to make up these four days, I vote they stay in school all summer and possibly learn something.
But that's me.
PS -- I'm only picking on this school district because they're the topic of the news report I heard. I think most kids are stupid, many districts are inadequate and all students should be in school all year. Again, but that's me.
My title is from School's Out by Alice Cooper.
PPS -- I have never heard this song, but the lyrics fit.
PPPS -- I feel I must state that I am pro-teacher as I love many teachers. They work very hard on the whole, but are fighting a loosing battle in many ways.

I was one of those rare kids that would have preferred to go to school all year round!
I agree, they shouldn't be able to NOT make up the days at the very least! It's not doing the kids justice - and the teachers get paid either way (not enough, mind you, but they still get paid!)
