I follow the Mother's Day rule of planting flowers. It was so hard this year too because a) we had the most craptastic winter in recent memory and b) there were some lovely, unusually warm days in April.
But I waited. And waited. Then I even waited some more.
Finally, the day before Mother's Day I went to Home Depot. My color scheme, purples and pinks, in my head, I roamed through the bountiful aisles, inhaling the delightful smells of the annuals. I chose with care. This one, that one.
I came home and planted. I gently lay licorice mulch on top of my garden. I hid a newly purchased gnome among the buds. I watered and admired the simple beauty.
And then the temperature dropped to 35 degrees.
Mother's Day; Smuther's Day.
Luckily, my plants have made it through the last few cold nights. So much for rules!
