The great Oz has spoken

The Wizard of Oz has been one of my favorite films for as long as I can remember. There was a time, long ago, when one of the networks would air it like clockwork once a year and I would be allowed to stay up late to watch the entire show. Although, I must admit that the end of the film used to scare me. The flying monkeys and the emptying hourglass filled me with absolute dread.

This movie has become a part of my life in a variety of ways. I refer to the short men who flirt with me as members of "The Lollipop Guild." Not a conversation with my mother goes by without her saying or writing in an e-mail, "and your little dog too." In fact, one of my most treasured Christmas ornaments is of the rotten Miss Gulch on her bicycle, which I lovingly refer to as my mom. (She gets the joke.)

Most of all, there is no greater happiness than listening to Judy Garland sing "Over The Rainbow." Her voice wraps around me like a warm blanket and I can think of no greater pairing of a singer and a song. It is sheer bliss to the senses.

Wow! We are connected in the cosmos. My favorites are the Wizard of Oz , the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the Sound of Music. I own the SOM soundtrack and completely piss off my family singing it constantly. I watch it every holiday season and wrap gifts to it. But, I hate the beginning of W of Oz because I DETEST b/w movies.
