My mom has been organizing a Christmas charity at her office for a few years now. Basically, she works with a Philadelphia organization that provides the names of senior citizens in need and each senior asks for a particular item they would like for Christmas. The gifts they ask for are never huge items (pajamas, a sweater, towels, etc.)
This year my mom organized the event and asked for a specific number of senior citizens based on how many people said they would give. And then, eight people decided they no longer wanted to partake in the event.
How can you possibly commit to buying a charitable gift for someone and then refuse to do it?
So there's my mother, with the wish lists of eight senior citizens that have basically nothing. And at a point where it was too late to tell the organization she's working with that they need to find other people to give.
Jo-Ann was going to buy for the additional eight people herself (sweetheart!) but when she mentioned it to me, Jessie and Chris, we said we'd help out too. Jess and Chris took three seniors and I took two...Ann and Regina. (Side note...I had grandmothers called Ann and Regina...isn't that odd?)
I told Crazy Julie about it and she bought Regina an additional item today because she was so appalled by the selfishness of those other people. She said she's going to try and pick up another something for Ann as well.
There are a lot of Grinches out there, my friends. However, there are a lot of good people too. Julie may be crazy, but she has an enormous heart. At least someone gets the spirit of the Holidays.
My title is from You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch.

That breaks my heart.
Now that hubbie is gainfully employed, I feel the need to give back enormously for those that helped us.
It's Karma man. What you put out, you get back.
Good for you Jen.
