Maggie the Bulldog tried to become friends with Saffron for a few years. Saffron refused. I talk to Maggie's mom and dad often as they live in the building right next to me. They are sweet peeps, most likely in their early 50's, who adore their little fat dog with the funny overbite grin.
Today they accidentally left the stove on and went out. A mistake that could happen to anyone. Their apartment caught on fire. Maggie the Bulldog was inside.
Crazy Julie called me at work to tell me the building next door was in flames and that she was ready to get Saffron out of my apartment. Julie works from home and has a key to my place for emergencies.
Luckily the fire didn't spread and my building was fine. My possessions were fine. But most of all, my little fat dog was fine.
Maggie the Bulldog died in the fire. I cannot imagine what her owners must be feeling. The guilt must be unreal.
I found myself giving my doggie more kisses tonight than usual. I suggest you do the same with your pets (and peeps) as well.
My title is from the song, Your Smiling Face by James Taylor.

Oh no! I did not expect the story to end like that. So sad. RIP Maggie.
That is so sad!! I'm going to go home and give my furry baby extra hugs and kisses tonight!!
omg.
This is absolutely terrible. I'm so unbelievably sorry for Maggie's owners. I can't believe losing your pet like that.
I can't stop crying for poor Maggie.
