The Latest

I came home tonight to find my dog dragging her back legs. D-R-A-G-G-I-N-G her back legs.

Jessica and Christopher rushed over to help me get her to a vet. I took her to an amazing vet right in Voorhees that stayed open just to see her even though she's not even a patient of theirs. How incredible is that?

It turns out that Saffron has basically blown out her back.

Long dogs like Bassets are prone to back issues. Plus, she's elderly. The doctor asked me if she jumps up and down on furniture. She jumps off my bed every morning. And, I know she jumps up and down from my sofa when I'm not home.

All these things have hurt her back to this point. This morning she could walk; tonight she cannot.

The plan for recovery is this: she is on two kinds of meds for 8 weeks. She has to be caged for 8 weeks; she's only allowed out of the cage to go to the bathroom and if she sits quietly next to me. She has to see the vet once a week for 8 weeks.

If her back does not get better, or continues to get worse, I have to put her to sleep.

I have to because I love her more than you can imagine and when she came into my life all those years ago I promised her I'd take care of her no matter what.

And I will.

You're such a good mommy. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Dogs are family. Here's hoping Saffy gets her sea legs back.

Saffron is so lucky that you're her mom! I hope her recovery is speedy and complete!

I'm saying a big prayer for you Saffron and you. If I were with you now I wouldn't ge able to speak because I'm crying. You know how I love dogs. It's heartbreaking to see them suffer.
