I'm Poor as a Mouse

Recently I have heard of many people that despite how much money they earn, they are spending money like there's no tomorrow. And I don't mean the occasional treat at Old Navy or a new bottle of nail polish. I mean taking expensive vacations, purchasing high-end electronics and such.

And I wonder how they can sleep at night. Not because of any guilt, but because of the inevitable heart palpitations that must follow when you spend the mortgage money on a new Apple laptop.

For example, I know someone who knows someone that was laid off a few months ago. This person will not look for a job outside of the town in which she lives because she doesn't want to commute and was also just laying down a bunch of cash on flowers for her deck and backyard. Flowers get very expensive and this person is worried she'll lose her house. Why buy the flowers? Why not look for a job in Philly and embrace a 1/2 hour commute? I'd kill for a commute that short! I am lucky if I get home in one hour!

Anyway, I just don't get it. Eventually the bill will come and have to be paid. How can that not weigh heavily on someone?

What are your thoughts, dear readers?

Hi folks! It's Blogger Challenge week again! This time Cousin Elizabeth and I are blogging to the musical, Annie!

I agree with you! People shouldn't spend beyond their means! When they get laid off they should make every reasonable effort to find work (i.e. looking outside the town they live in.)

Well, if nothing else the flowers will make it easier for her (or the bank) to sell the house!

When Scot lost his job, we got rid of the house cleaner, cable, and dinner out. You have to start living like a pauper; you never know how long it will take till you get a new job. SO, I couldn't live that way - it would freak me out!
