Duck, duck, goose

Where I live there are a great deal of ducks and geese. They make their homes here because there is a fresh water stream behind my apartment which twists and turns before eventually emptying into a small lake. At this time of year you don't have to look far to see ducks and geese proudly walking around the apartment complex with their new babies.

About an hour ago I took Saffron out for a walk. One of my neighbors and his son were laying down in the parking lot. They told me a baby duck fell down one of the sewer grates. Luckily I had my cell phone on me and I called my neighbor, Julie. She is like a duck whisperer. As I was leaving her a voicemail she pulled in the parking lot in her car. If Julie didn't know what to do, she would know of someone who could come help.

Saffron and I walked for about 45 minutes and on our way home we walked past a momma duck laying on top of her babies. We approached our own building to find Julie and about 6 other of my neighbors walking around with a cardboard box. They had rescued the baby duck and were now looking for the momma duck. I mentioned the duck I just saw and Julie brought the baby over.

Julie just stopped at the door and said that the momma duck accepted the baby and all is finally well.

Julie also dropped off a little gift she had bought Saffron today while she was out. In a very bizarre and ironic twist, it is a stuffed duckie toy.

Life is so odd.

Here's Saffron with her new toy.

Oh my gosh, when I read the headline, I thought that goose was real, and Saffron had caught it. What a fab toy!
