I am a very strong believer in education. In my opinion, there are very few gifts as important as providing children with not only an education through books and formal schooling, but also a cultural education. I have always felt it is vital for kids to understand that there is a much bigger world out there than simply the small corner of it in which they live.
This is one of the reasons why I am such a big fan of Sesame Street. I grew up watching it and as an adult, I think it is still one of the best learning tools for our little ones. It doesn't talk down to them and somehow continues to make the learning process fun. Plus, it brings an appreciation of culture and the world in general to the table.
I was watching a documentary on PBS the other day and this promotion ran. It made my jaw drop and I thought I would share. I especially love the suffragette march...amazing!

What's sad though is how much Sesame Street has changed. It's not the same show we had as kids. They still have the cultural diversity, but it all moves so fast now. I LOVED SS and I don't know any kids who have watched it and loved it like our generation. The last 15 minutes every day is devoted to Elmo. Really, what the fukc is Elmo? He's not crotchety like Oscar or scary like the Count. But, I digress... the message is there, and it is one of the best on TV.
